Given that the property I am on temporarily, (6 more months) was abandoned for so long, it’s become quite the wildlife refuge.

Issues with flooding from a few years ago was actually best handled by the beavers ???? ????who are here now and have built dams on each side of the water-inconvenient for me-because I would be getting my groceries via kayak instead of on foot, crippled with my sticks.

However, their dams are helpful for the community because otherwise it would be flooding, even now. ????????????

The beavers created their habitat here and naturally give a beautiful sanctuary for birds.

I’ve seen plenty of eagles, red winged black birds, hummingbirds, orioles, cedar waxwings, ducks, tufted titmouse, phoebe, chickadee, nuthatch, tree swallow, a raven & even some blue heron recently.

Love those Bennu birds.

???? ????????????????????????

A few weeks back even a wolf pup was here. Always lots of deer, a porcupine & plenty of sun turtles, frogs, dragonfly’s, fish and trees.

I’m sure bear would be comfortable here as well.

Despite the trash in the ground from being abandoned for years-the wildlife is happy to exist here. I’m grateful for it. Nature and animals have always been my friends, especially in a World that I haven’t had much human companionship.

It is amazing for me to be walking amongst land that was once part of my step grandfather’s farm, before he gave it to my aunt.

As a kid I was allowed to wander within the property pretty far, as I knew boundaries and listened.

????????????????????

This area of mostly marshland, is really lovely and its best trait-very private.

???? Kayaking along the stream I am unseen by people and able to interact with wildlife regularly-my favorite things combined.

Nature doesn’t mind if I sing, dance, cry, laugh, or am myself.

They communicate back to me in kind ways. ???? ????????

It’s healing-even amidst all that has occurred in this time period & my life.

When I was a little girl and my Dad was milking cows up the hill, he used to give me spelling lists, while he worked & as I helped with tasks I could do and got to spend time with him and the animals.

One day he gave me the spelling word-beaver dam ????

And I wrote it twice-

I knew dam (damn)was a swear and knew I could get away with using that word in writing it twice-(I swear a lot as an adult, actually)

????Now being in a wetland marsh where there are two beaver dams-one blocking road access and one blocking pond access-maybe it was also me being psychic

I am incredibly psychic, it even amazes me, I have lots of dreams that happen. ????????????

I don’t talk much about my visions & dreams……but when I do…….????️????

It’s amazing to me that wildlife naturally exists side by side to us and is anything but honored.

I say hi to everything-it is strange to me when people only speak to each other.

The solution those beavers found for flooding is in their nature, why does humanity constantly want to fight or compete with it?

Maybe moving forward, communities can think more about their animal neighbors and create sustainable solutions, to remembering our job as keepers of the earth.

A small example is introducing beavers to areas with high flooding issues-instead of building more disruptive human dams……

What is near you for wildlife?

Next week I want to talk about human trafficking and more about the hell I’ve lived through-right here in Maine: because of people who forgot their honor and integrity.
I bring this into this weeks blog-because me being in nature and surrounded by people who knew me as a kid-makes me feel safer and will hopefully allow me to heal emotionally, even if my body does not.
