When my Boston terrier was just a puppy, I read that Boston Terriers were going missing; so made extra sure to lock my car when going into a store.
I discovered that the reason, is a horrible one.
Dog fighting
Or more accurately bait dogs.
They evidently train the puppies, typically bully breeds to fight with the grown or older Boston terriers. These dogs, Boston’s, are wonderful companions and protectors despite their smaller size. They have been bread down over the years to become the size they are today.
I got my baby Boston at 6 weeks old in the late Spring of 2011. We were inseparable, aside from the trips I went overseas to study yoga, Ayurveda and dance. Or the dance workshops I competed here. She was ALWAYS with me. From 6 weeks until almost 12 years old.
Saying goodbye to her, February 2, 2023 was one of the hardest things I have ever done; putting her to sleep with a local woman who euthanizes right at your home. For me, it was a strange evening. My companion of almost 12 years being put to her final rest. Carrying her limp body down my stairs with a spinal cord injury and putting her lifeless body in the passenger seat of the woman’s car and watching her leave…..
We think that dog fighting sounds like an archaic tradition. Something of the past; but it is ongoing right here, in Maine, even today.
They use the Boston terriers as bait dogs as well as to breed them with the pit bulls in order to have more fighting dogs or practice ones.
The horrible part of it, evidently the white around the Boston terriers neck is to see the bite marks left by other dogs, easier……
Pretty terrible.
My Boston terrier, named Persaeus, was my best friend and the closest thing I’ve had to a child. She is my furry child. For most of us, that choose to have dog companions, that’s how it is.
I want to write about the grief I have felt in her passing, but also bring awareness to the issues ongoing in our area.
I’ve lived through a lot in my life and desire for where I experienced it, here in Maine, USA, to make changes, for the betterment of all community members; not just those deemed ‘worthy’ of other’s assessment and protection, we all deserve to be safe, and our pets/children too.
I have never seen a dog fight, nor do I want to, I just know if anyone had my Boston terrier, when she was alive, and told me, I would have gone and gotten her.
No questions asked.
She has crossed the rainbow bridge, thanks to Robin Elms. A wonderful traveling vet that I recommend via her business, peaceful passages.
Rest in Peace

Here is a short story I wanted to publish someday
The story about a Boston Terrier…..
By Katherine Lily Mae Harris
Her mamma
A cat,dog,pig,seal,bat,meercat
If you’ve ever been down to Belfast Bay you may have seen the craziest sights!
I once saw a cat walking on a leash…underneath the moonlight.
On another day I was taking a hike, and I heard the strangest sound…
It sounded like a pig was somewhere near, I just couldn’t devise how!
Then I saw the most adorable treasure on the other side of the bay. It was a tiny black and white seal laying on a rock. Getting sun in the middle of the day!
Another night came upon and I swear I saw the biggest bat ears I’ve ever seen. Flying so near to the ground, it’s as if it walked forth and I even heard it sneeze!
One day I was walking in town and from quite far away, I saw a meerkat standing up in the grass….at second glance it at once disappeared…
Now you might think this was a crazy town, seeing so many creatures at play by the bay….
And wouldn’t you know what I realized….this whole time…all those creatures were just Sae….the Boston terrier who lived by the bay!
